PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device which displays a high-quality image. SOLUTION: A drive circuit that drives an electro-optical apparatus 100 including electro-optical materials 50 interposed between a pixel electrode 9a and a counter electrode 21 which face each other. The driving circuit includes: an image signal supply unit that supplies the pixel electrode with an image signal VID corresponding to an image to be displayed; a common potential supply units 510 and 520 that supply a common potential COM, which is a predetermined potential, to the counter electrode; and a common potential control unit 530 that, during a period for which the image signal is not supplied to the pixel electrode, controls the common potential supply unit such that the common potential is changed to a potential different from the predetermined potential and maintained for a predetermined period, and then the common potential is returned again to the predetermined potential.
