Each pivotally - suspended bucket of an endless bucket conveyer comprises a cam and a roller mounted adjacent the cam for engaging a complementary track arranged to turn the bucket, the arrangement being such that the cam impinges on the track at a small angle and rolls along it during initial turning of the bucket and that a surface of the track is thereafter engaged by the roller during further turning of the bucket. The buckets 1 are provided at each side with a cam member 49, the upper part o f which is provided with a bearing for pivotally mounting the bucket between a pair of endless chains, while the lower part is provided with a cam surface 64. A roller 65 is rotatably mounted on a pin 99 inserted in the cam member and held in place by a plate 101 engaging a slot in the pin and bolted to the cam member. As the buckets approach the discharge point each cam surface 64 engages by its forward portion LM with the initial part 107 of a track at a small angle thereto. This effects a small turning of the bucket followed by roller 65 engaging a steeply rising part 108 of the track which causes the bucket to pivot about the axis of the roller into its dumping position. A horizontal part 109 of the track follows the part 108 and roller 65 rides up the part 108 on to this part 109 to complete the turning into dumping position. A part 110 of the track guides the roller 65 to return the bucket slowly. At point C the forward portion LM of the cam surface 64 re-engages the track which becomes gradually less inclined and after the point D the rear portion KL of the cam surface 64 is engaging the final portion of the track. If the bucket is swinging as it approaches the discharge point the rear portion KL of the cam surface 64 may engage the initial part 107 of the track, still at a small angle, instead of the portion LM.
