<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly form a fine stripe-shaped pattern in a vertical alignment division type liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display having a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix includes: an active matrix substrate 10 having pixel electrodes 13 provided in each of the plurality of pixels; a counter substrate 20 having a counter electrode 23 opposed to the pixel electrodes 13; and a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer 30 provided between the active matrix substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20. The active matrix substrate 10 has a first color filter 12B, a second color filter 12R and a third color filter 12G transmitting color beams different from one another. The thickness of the first color filter 12B is different from at least one thickness of the second and third color filters 12R and 12G.
