PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate image data of a series of documents while performing reading using an ADF reading function and reading using a manual reading function in a mixed manner. SOLUTION: An image sensor 15 reads a document which is placed on an original platen while being fed by an image sensor transfer mechanism part 17. In such a case, ADF reading is performed by feeding the document by means of a document feeding mechanism part 18 and manual reading is performed by not feeding the document. Each time ADF reading or manual reading is finished, a CPU 11 receives a designation of whether to read the next document. If reading of the next document is designated, ADF reading or manual reading is executed. Until a designation to complete document reading is made, the CPU 11 stores image data generated by ADF reading or manual reading in an image memory 14 as image data of each of pages of a series of documents arranged in a reading order.
