The method involves fixing workpieces (3) to be printed at movable carriages (2). The carriages are moved relative to a color application device (6) in a feed direction and printing of a stripe-like section on the workpieces. The carriages and color application device are moved in a direction perpendicular to the feed direction. The carriages are moved relative to the color application device and printing of another stripe-like section on the workpieces adjacent to the former stripe-like section until the workpieces are completely printed. An independent claim is also included for a device for printing on large-sized work pieces, comprising movable carriages.
