Apparatus for preforming a semifinished textile product (10), with first and second fibers (12, 14) in first and second orientations, has (i) a continuous, automatic device (22) for supplying the product and (ii) a continuous, automatic device (24) for shearing the product, to give a preformed semifinished textile product (38) in which at least one of the fiber orientations differs from that in the initial product. Independent claims are included for: (1) a corresponding preforming method for producing the preformed semifinished textile product (38), involving (a) supplying the initial semifinished textile product (10), with first and second fibers (12, 14) in respective orientations, to a shearing device (24) and (b) continuously, automatically shearing the product, to give the preformed product in which at least one of the fiber orientations differs from that in the initial product; and (2) the production of a fiber composite component, by impregnating at least one preformed semifinished textile product (38) (as described above) with a resin then hardening the resin.
