The method involves generating laser beam (12) using a laser (11), and providing a workpiece support (14) that is directly exposed by the laser. A workpiece on the workpiece support is hardened using the laser beam, where the workpiece support supports a workpiece blank (13) with a hearing device-component (16). The laser beam is deflected by an optic device i.e. mirror (20), such that the workpiece support is indirectly exposed with the laser. A hollow space (17) is located below the component relative to a viewing direction of the laser.
