PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for uniformly applying a sizing agent to a glass filament taken out from a spinning furnace and drawn. SOLUTION: A sizing agent retaining material 24 is provided adjacent to a sizing agent applying surface part of a coater type sizing agent applying apparatus to form a liquid pool in a gap between the sizing agent applying surface part and a sizing agent retaining material and the glass filament is passed through the liquid pool. The liquid pool is formed between the sizing agent applying surface part and the sizing agent retaining material by providing the sizing agent retaining material adjacent to the sizing agent applying surface part of the coater type sizing agent applying apparatus.
