A mounting adapted to allow a refrigerator door to hinge about either vertical edge comprises a plate 14 extending transversely across the door and secured thereto, a bar 15 disposed in spaced parallel relation to the plate and formed in its lower edge with a notch 16, bell crank levers 18 and 23 pivoted respectively at 21 and 26 to the plate and pivoted respectively at 17 and 22 to the bar, arms 33 and 34 pivoted at 35 to the plate, a handle (not shown) being connected to each arm for rotating the latter, a spring 40 interconnecting the arms, latches 27 and 28 pivoted respectively at 29 and 30 to the plate and adapted to move into and out of the notch, a spring 32 interconnecting the latches, spring members 38 and 39 carried by the respective arms 33 and 34 for effecting movement of the latches into the notch, spaced parallel horizontally disposed flanges 43, 44, 46 secured to one end of the plate, similar flanges 49, 50, 52 secured to the other end of the plate, lock bolts 19 and 25 slidably carried in the opposed flanges and pivoted at 20 and 24 to the respective bell cranks 18 and 23, springs 48 and 53 connecting the respective lowermost flanges 46 and 52 to the respective bell cranks 18 and 23, and hinge brackets 55 and 56 secured to the opposite sides of the cabinet for selectively receiving the lock bolts. When an arm is turned outwardly by its handle, it rocks the adjacent bell crank to withdraw the bolt associated with the latter .from the fixed bracket, the spring member associated with the arm simultaneously carrying the associated catch upwardly to engage its point in the notch. A leaf spring 65 or 66, secured to the plate, moves over the head of the withdrawn bolt when the door is opened. The mounting constitutes the upper pair of hinges. Each hinge of the lower pair comprises an arcuate finger secured to the door and adapted to engage a roller secured to the cabinet. |
