<p>The method involves detecting front and middle motor vehicles (5, 4) in-front of a rear motor vehicle (3) with a radar device (6), and detecting a distance of the two vehicles (4, 5) to each other and a relative velocity. A warning signal is provided as output depending on the distance and the relative velocity with which the two motor vehicles (4, 5) approach each other.
