Class 65(2) [Also in Group XXXII] The invention relates to independent front wheel mountings of road vehicles (see Group XXXII). A ball joint between a king pin 6 and a control arm 1 comprises a ball end 4 carried on the pin 6, centred substantially on the longitudinal axis of the control arm 1, and located in concave halfbearings 7, 7<SP>1</SP> held between clamping members 10. 10<SP>1</SP>, detachably secured to the arm 1, which is slotted to receive the ball end 4. The arm 1 is formed by the respective half of a transverse laminated spring, which is anchored at its middle zone to the chassis frame. The eye of the spring 1 is slotted at 3 to receive the ball 4, and each half-bearing 7 is inserted from respective ends of the eye 2. Room for clamping bolts 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, is provided by a neck 17 on the ball end 4. A rubber seal 9 retains lubricant fed from a nipple 18. Specification 764,027 is referred to. |
