PURPOSE: A vertical and horizontal excavation detection apparatus is provided to carry out real-time sensing of excavation direction by a rod with high precision. CONSTITUTION: A vertical and horizontal excavation detection apparatus comprises a light emitting unit(110), a light receiving unit(120), and an excavation direction sensing unit(130). The light emitting unit is fixed to the inner center of the front end of a rod(10) used for excavation and irradiates highly-directional light toward the back end of the rod. The light receiving unit is installed close to an opening formed in the back end of the rod and receives the light emitted from the light emitting unit. The excavation direction sensing unit is connected through cable or wireless communication to the light receiving unit and senses whether the rod is excavating straight.
