METHOD FOR DECIDING MACROBLOCK MODE IN VIDEO CODING APPARATUS AND APPARATUS THEREOF

PURPOSE: A method for determining macro block mode and a device thereof in an image encoder device are provided to control weight of movement estimation according to image characteristic of current macro block, thereby reducing the complexity of encoder by reducing the calculation amount which is necessary for movement estimation in a mode determination process of the macro block. CONSTITUTION: A macro block feature decider(501) checks the characteristic of the currently inputted macro block by an determining an image feature of the currently inputted macro block. A mode determination stage selector(502) selects a macro block mode determination stage according to the image characteristic. A macro block mode selector(503) determines macro block mode by estimating an integer pixel motion or determines macro block mode by estimating 1/2 pixel or 1/4 pixel movement according to the selected stage for determining a macro block mode.
