APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MEASURING DISTANCE WITH POINTING DEVICE

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for measuring distance with a pointing device are provided to be manufacture at a low cost by measuring the rotation of a ball based on an optical sensor used in a mouse. CONSTITUTION: A pointing sensor(100) having a pointing function comprises an optical sensor, a lens and a lighting apparatus. A CPU(Central Processing Unit)(101) calculates the pointing value depending on motion, and a display device(102) displays a distance value by converting an accumulated pointing value. The CPU performs the conversion into a linear pointing value based on the accumulative pointing value of the horizontal/vertical component, and converts the linear pointing value into a distance value.
