PURPOSE: A device for coating lubricant and a device for forming an image are provided to install solid lubricant to lubricant, thereby restraining the abrasion of the solid lubricant by an adherence of the residual toner on a lubricant coating member. CONSTITUTION: A lubricant applying member(8) is connected to image holder and lubricant(9). The lubricant applying member maintains the part of the lubricant on peripheral part by rotation of the member. The lubricant applying member coasts the lubricant on the retaining body. A solid substance is installed in the lubricant. The solid material neighbors to upper stream side of rotating direction of the lubricant applying member. The solid material has higher longitude than the lubricant. The solid material is worn away by connecting with the lubricant applying member.
