A journal bearing comprises a fabricated base structure supporting upper and lower shells which are clamped together by blocks 7 contacting the upper surface of members 5 and engaging surfaces 8 of recesses 9 in the upper shell. The base structure is a plate 2 provided with upstanding members 3 welded thereto in axially spaced relationship to the shaft, the members 3 being connected together by the members 5 whose upper faces are level with the axis of the shaft. The structure is enclosed to provide a reservoir 10, and flanges 13 on the shaft thrust against semi-annular pads 17 supported on the end members 3 by ring 18. The bearing is lubricated by oil lifted by the flanges 13 and then scraped off by blades 16 which direct it into shoots 14 and a hole 15, formed in the upper shell. |
