736,997. Conveyer belts. GREENGATE & IRWELL RUBBER CO., Ltd., and MARSHALL, D. D. July 8, 1953 [July 9, 1952], No. 17287/52. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group VIII] A conveyer belt comprises a number of plies impregnated with frictioning compositions based on natural rubber or inflammable synthetic rubber-like materials such as butadiene-styrene and butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers enclosed in a non-inflammable outer covering consisting of polyvinyl chloride or copolymers of other vinyl compounds with vinyl chloride. Such other compounds may be vinyl acetate and vinylidene chloride: plasticizers such as tricresyl phosphate may also be present. The belt carcass may consist of plies of cotton, rayon, nylon or other synthetic fibres. The carcass of plies may be covered with a jacket of woven fabric with the non-inflammable composition on its outer side and the frictioning composition on its inner side, and the assembly vulcanized. Alternatively, the carcass may be covered with a jacket of woven fabric with the frictioning composition on its inner side, vulcanized, and the non-inflammable composition then applied. Isocyanates and resorcinolformaldehyde resins may be used to improve the adhesion. |
