PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent production of a gap in a boundary between a cast-in cylinder liner and a cylinder block so as to suppress deformation of the cylinder liner, and to provide the cylinder liner of an engine in which adhesion of hard plating is improved, and which can obtain sufficiently satisfactory workability. SOLUTION: The cylinder liner 4 is cast in with the cylinder block 2 of an engine containing 7 to 12 mass% Si. The cylinder liner 4 is composed of an aluminum alloy having a composition containing 20 to 30 mass% Si, 0.05 to 2.0 mass% Cu, 0.1 to 1.5 mass% Mg, 0.04 to 0.35 mass% Cr and≤2.0 mass% Fe, and the balance aluminum with inevitable impurities. Further, the cylinder liner 4 is formed by a hot extrusion process after rapidly cooled solidified powder having the above composition is sintered and solidified. The size of the primary crystal Si grains of the rapidly cooled solidified powder is≤20μm at the maximum and is≤5μm at the average, and further, its thermal expansion coefficient is≤90% of the thermal expansion coefficient of the cylinder block 2.
