<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer which can easily select a desired file from among registered files, and to provide a control method thereof. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The tape printer includes: an input means for inputting information, a file registering means 82 which registers edit data based on the inputted information as files; a file selecting means 91 which selects one file from among the registered files; and a means 91 for shrinking and displaying file information, which displays at least part of contents of the registered files, by a character size smaller than a display character size at the input means, on a display screen so as to check contents of the files for selecting one file.
