PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method of controlling a transfer robot in which an electromagnet is used as an end effector of the robot and capable of preventing a workpiece from falling during long time of power failure without including a gripping device for backup. SOLUTION: The control device includes a robot controller 22 for controlling the transfer robot 10, a power failure monitoring device 24 for sensing power failure of a main power source, and a non-failure power source device 26 capable of supplying necessary power to the electromagnet 11, the transfer robot 10, and the robot controller 22 during a predetermined period of time. The control device operates the non-failure power source device 26 during the power failure, transfers the workpiece 1 gripped by the electromagnet 11 to a temporary evacuation place set beforehand, releases the gripped workpiece at the temporary evacuation place, and stops.
