PURPOSE: A library apparatus is provided to improve the spatial efficiency in a medium receiving shelf by containing recording media in a cell installed with a flag. CONSTITUTION: A library apparatus comprises a medium receiving shelf, a record/playback device, a transfer device(18), a flag, and a flag transport device. Cells receiving recording media are installed in the medium receiving shelf. The record/playback device performs record/playback on the recording media. The transfer device transfers the recording media between the medium receiving shelf and the record/playback device. The flag is installed in the cells and used for obtaining the location information for transferring the recording media. The flag transport device transfers the flag to the location which does not interrupt the mounting of the recording media on the cells and includes a flag plate in which the flag is installed and a rotating mechanism for rotating the flag plate.
