PURPOSE: A performance monitoring unit and method of estimating power consumption of a system using the performance monitoring unit are provided to estimate the power consumption by remarkably reducing estimation errors in the power consumption of a system. CONSTITUTION: An on-chip bus interface(110) is connected to an on-chip bus(200), and a parser(120) parses a monitored command signal in the format which is can be processed in an operation monitoring unit(100). If a device or a CPU(Central Processing Unit) performs an operation according to the monitored command signal of the on-chip bus interface through a power consumption value per command signal, a control unit(140) calculates the values of unit power consumption.
