PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make more effective use of IC chips from which data can be read without contact. SOLUTION: By transmitting a character code read from a chip 24a to an electronic dictionary terminal 25, a Japanese-English dictionary can be requested to retrieve a character string represented by the character code. In a chip embedded book 24, the chip 24a is embedded at the predetermined position of a character string (for example, word, idiom and marginal annotation) printed on paper, and a character code (string) of a printed character string is recorded in the chip 24a. Furthermore, the electronic dictionary terminal 25 is a device configured, for example, as an electronic dictionary, and provided with a function that can communicate with an information processor.
