<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of stabilizing combustion of air-fuel mixture, leaning the air-fuel mixture and preventing the deterioration in startability of the internal combustion engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 1 includes: an intake port 6 provided in a cylinder head 2; an intake valve 7 for opening/closing the intake port 6; a fuel injection valve 11 for injecting fuel into an intake port 7; a partitioning wall 12 vertically dividing the inside of the intake port 6 to form an upper passage 6a and a lower passage 6b; and a control valve 13 provided in the lower passage 6b to control the quantity of air passing through the lower passage 6b in response to the opening of the control valve 13. In the partitioning wall 12, a surface 12b on an upper passage 6a side is coated with a high heat conductive material, and a surface 12c on a lower passage 6b side is coated with a heat insulating material.
