<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid wrong determination of material for a perforated recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image forming device 100 has: a detection device 30 which detects reflected light or transmitted light from the recording medium when light is emitted to irradiate the recording medium; a material determination device 40 which determines the material of the recording medium based on a detection value of the detection device 30 when the detection value is not within a range of the detection value corresponding to the case that light is emitted into the holes of the perforated recording medium; and an image forming part 10 which forms an image onto the recording medium following the image forming condition according to the material of the recording medium determined by the material determination device 40.
