<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of performing state transition of liquid crystal without requiring a gate driver with high voltage resistance, and to provide a method of driving the liquid crystal display device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Each pixel includes liquid crystal LC inserted between a pixel electrode 121 and a counter electrode 122 and a sustain capacitor SC inserted between the pixel electrode 121 and a sustain capacitor counter electrode 123. A transition voltage supply circuit 201 supplies a transition voltage for transiting the liquid crystal LC from a spray state to a bent state to a portion between a supply point A of a counter voltage VCOM and a supply point B of a sustain capacitor counter voltage VSC during a predetermined transition period.
