PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that facilitates forwarding a packet on a CCN. SOLUTION: A system receives an incoming packet (302) and then determines whether the packet is a packet of interest or a content packet (304). If the received packet is a packet of interest, the system determines a CS match (306). If a CS match is found, a copy of the content is then returned to the source of interest (307). If no CS match is found, a forwarding engine further performs a lookup in a PIT and determines whether there is already a pending interest (308). If there is a match in the PIT, the system updates the corresponding PIT entry (310), and continues to receive the next incoming packet. If no PIT match is found, an FIB lookup in a FIB is performed (312). If an FIB match is found, the interest packet is forwarded to an FIB lookup match face (314) to update the PIT including the interest packet before the next incoming packet is received (310).
