PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device that sets the capping state of a recording head to an optimum state by a simple configuration without interfering with the operation of a maintenance and recovery device and prevents degradation in the cleaning performance of a nozzle face with time without applying excessive stress on the nozzle face. SOLUTION: The recording device ejects droplets of ink to a recording medium from a nozzle formed on the nozzle face of the recording head with a piezoelectric element as a pressure-generating element. The recording device includes: a cap that seals the nozzle face by abutting on the nozzle face of the recording head; and a detecting means for detecting, as a change in the capacity of the piezoelectric element, the contact pressure of the cap with the nozzle face of the recording head.
