<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power plant capable of improving the thermal efficiency of a plant when output is improved. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A boiling water type nuclear power plant supplies steam from an atomic reactor to a high pressure turbine and a low pressure turbine. Water created through the condensation of steam in a condenser is heated by a low pressure and a high pressure water supply heater and is supplied to the atomic reactor. Steam discharged from the low pressure turbine is compressed by a steam compression device (heat pump) 27, is supplied to a low pressure water supply heater, and heats supplied water. Bleed steam from the low pressure turbine is supplied to the low pressure water supply heater. The steam compression device 27 is connected to a position where a main steam system exists and to the water supply heater so as to satisfy COP-1/η>0, when the necessary power of the steam compression device 27 is defined as Q1, thermal energy supplied from the steam compression device 27 is defines as Q3, the coefficient of performance of the steam compression device 27 is defined as COP(=Q3/Q1), and the thermal efficiency of the boiling water type nuclear power plant is defined as η.
