<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for preparing an interpolation frame that creates higher quality interpolation frame image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The interpolation frame preparation apparatus 10 includes a motion vector detection portion 12 that detects a motion vector of images in a frame image by block matching processing between the input frame images and an interpolation image preparation portion 13 that creates an interpolation frame using the detected motion vector to insert it between the input frame images. The motion vector detection portion 12 calculates SAD, which is cumulative addition of a differential absolute value of corresponding pixel values, regarding an interpolation block in the interpolation frame. The interpolation frame preparation apparatus 10 further includes a minimum point decision means that detects a minimum point of the calculated SAD to detect a motion vector candidate, and a slanting line detection portion 12A that determines, when a plurality of motion vector candidates are detected by the minimum point decision means, that they are a slanting line image or not based on SAD distribution about the plurality of motion vector candidates.
