摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that water may be put on an exhaust component sensor and the sensor may be cracked caused by water droplets in the exhaust, wherein the sensor is disposed to an exhaust passage to detect a specific component in exhaust, in a conventional vehicle in which an SCR type exhaust emission control device is built. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method controls energization of a heater 44 built in the exhaust component detection sensor 41 to heat and activate the exhaust component sensor 41, which is disposed to the exhaust passage 13 downstream of a catalyst converter 25 of a selective catalyst reduction type using urea, and detects the specific component in the exhaust. The method includes: a step of determining an amount of condensate generated upstream of the exhaust component sensor 41; a step of determining whether vaporization of the calculated amount of condensate is finished; and a step of activating the exhaust component sensor 41, by energization of the heater 44 when it is determined that the vaporization of the condensate is finished.
