PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air breather device, capable of responding to a case having a relatively high oil level position or both normal and reverse directional rotations dispensing with processing within a reduction gear. SOLUTION: In the air breather device mounted, in the shape of a box body having at least five surfaces, on an outer wall of a housing 20 of a reduction gear 10 containing a gear train with lubricating oil sealed therein, the box body 40 has a lubricating oil inlet/outlet port and an air hole provided respectively in a low position and in a high position to communicate with the housing 20, and a top plate 41 of the box body 40 has a pressure vent 50. Since the box body can be mounted on the outer wall of the housing, a mounting surface can be selected, and processing in the mounting is also facilitated.
