PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for successively encoding/decoding an image are provided to perform compressive encoding/decoding for an image depending on whether or not image processing unit and a residual value are repeated. CONSTITUTION: An image encoding device judges whether or not a current image processing unit is identical to an image processing unit which is previously encoded(610), and performs entropy-encoding for the information on the repetition frequency which is the image processing unit(612). The image encoding device judges whether or not a current residual value is identical to the other residual value of the current image processing unit for which the entropy-encoding is performed(630). The image encoding device performs second entropy-encoding based on the initial residual value(632).
