<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rational anti-panic mechanism of a vehicle door latch device. <P>SOLUTION: When a lock lever 30 is displaced to an unlocking position U from a locking position L in a state in which an open lever 27 is displaced to a door opening operation position, an anti-panic spring 36 is elastically displaced, so that the lock lever 30 is switched to the unlocking position U without moving an operating piece 35. The operating piece 35 is arranged in such a manner as to be turned on a lock shaft 31.
