<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact linear actuator and a method of manufacturing the actuator. <P>SOLUTION: Some aspects include monitoring/adjusting functions of a work performed while accompanying still a cost corresponding to the cost of a cam device or an air-pressure device. In an embodiment, a coil 144 is attached to the bobbin assembly fastened to the rear side of a piston 130. Because the rotation of the piston is prevented during its operation, a spline bearing 156 may be embedded in a slideable way in one or more grooves of a spline shaft 136 positioned in the piston assembly. One or more cylindrical magnets 118 surrounding the coil operate the piston based on the direction wherein a current migrates through the coil.
