The device (10a) has an infrared light source (14) e.g. LED, for infrared illumination of traffic areas in front of a motor vehicle i.e. automobile. A dichroitic filter (16) e.g. interference filter, is arranged in path of rays of the light source and another infrared light source (12). The filter is transparent for infrared radiation of the former light source and reflected for radiation of the latter light source. A ray of light emitting from the latter light source is alignable. A projection lens (18) is arranged in the path of rays of the light sources behind the dichroitic filter.
