The roof (11) has an openable cover (13) pivotable by a front cover support, and an open-out lever engagement with an upper pivot point. The cover support and the pivot point exhibit minimum distance at a maximum opening position of the cover. A controller is attached to a cover-drive (27). A sensor is arranged in a vehicle (30), for transmitting a signal about acceleration of the vehicle and/or the cover to the controller. The controller controls the cover-drive based on the signal in terms of changing the distance. The sensor is selected from one of electronic safety program sensor, crash sensor, and sensor with electronic chassis setting. An independent claim is also included for a method for actuating a vehicle roof.
