<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cordierite sintered compact having high specific rigidity. <P>SOLUTION: The cordierite sintered compact contains cordierite as a main crystal and alumina as a sub-crystal, and contains 0.2 to 0.8 mass% of Ca in terms of CaO in the whole amount. In the measurement by an X-ray diffraction device using Cu-Kα line, the ratio (I<SB>Al</SB>/I<SB>mas</SB>) of the peak intensity I<SB>Al</SB>at a main peak (2θ=35.0 to 35.5°) of the alumina to the peak intensity I<SB>mas</SB>at a main peak (2θ=28.0 to 29.0°) of the cordierite ranges from 0.02 to 0.15.
