<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a composition for administering capsaicin and other TRPV1 agonists. <P>SOLUTION: A composition containing a TRPV1 agonist such as capsaicin, and a solvent system are provided. The topical application of the composition rapidly delivers an agonist to the skin and epidermis. A method of using the composition for reducing a nociceptive nerve fiber function in subjects and for treating capsaicin-responsive conditions is also provided. The invention is directed to a method of delivering the TRPV1 agonist to an epidermides and dermis below a mammal's skin or mucous membrane surface with an area of 1 cm<SP>2</SP>. The method includes a step of bringing the area into contact with the composition containing the TRPV1 agonist and at least one penetration enhancer; at least about 3 nanomoles of the TRPV1 agonist is held in the epidermides and dermis 30 minutes after the step of bringing the area into contact. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
