PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the bidirectional converter which can attain size and weight reduction better than before. SOLUTION: When the drive power supply on the input side is a drive power supply 51 (sub-drive power supply), the bidirectional converter supplies power to a control section 4 only from the drive power supply 51 in the starting period of an AC/DC conversion unit 2, and sets power consumption of the control section 4 to decrease as compared with the normal operation period. In the normal operation period of the AC/DC conversion unit 2, power is supplied to the control section 4 only from a drive power supply 52 (main drive power supply). Consequently, the power supply capability on one side (the side of the drive power supply 51, i.e. the sub-drive power supply) may be lowered more than before. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
