PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calorie measuring method which enables the measurement of the calorie of a calorie measuring target gas with high reliability even if the caloric measuring target gas is natural gas or biogas, and a calorie measuring instrument. SOLUTION: In the calorie measuring method for measuring the calorie of gas, the calorie Q[MJ/Nm<SP>3</SP>] of the calorie measuring target gas is calculated under a condition of 2.91≤correction factor α≤3.75 on the basis of the heat conductivity converted calorie A[MJ/Nm<SP>3</SP>] obtained from the heat conductivity of the calorie measuring target gas and the refractive index converted calorie B[MJ/Nm<SP>3</SP>] obtained from the refractive index of the calorie measuring target gas according to the formula (1).
