<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image reading apparatus capable of performing advanced control concerning restrictions on copying or reading of an original document in which copying and reading are restricted, with simple configurations and processing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an R color dot pattern detector 341, a G color dot pattern detector 342, a B color dot pattern detector 343, a dot pattern color determiner 344, a restriction content table storage 35, and an image formation controller 36. The R color dot pattern detector 341, the G color dot pattern detector 342, and the B color dot pattern detector 343 detect the existence of image data of a dot pattern for copy prohibition for each of R, G, and B color components in document image data. The dot pattern color determiner 344 determines the existence and color of the dot pattern for copy prohibition on an original document from each detected result of each detectors 341-343. The restriction content table storage 35 stores beforehand a table showing the correspondence between color of the dot pattern and the contents of restriction concerning the copying operation. The image formation controller 36 determines whether or not the setting of the present copying machine corresponds to the contents of restriction associated with the color, based on the determined result by the dot pattern color determiner 344 and the table, and forbids the copy operation if it corresponds.
