<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body structure for an automobile capable of suppressing bending deformation in a collision while suppressing an increase of weight. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A deformation suppression structure 18 is provided at a front part 12 of a side member, and a reinforcement part 18A of the deformation suppression structure 18 is arranged so as to be inclined in a longitudinal direction of the front part 12 of the side member. Thereby, the deformation suppression structure 18 gives the anisotropy of rigidity to the front part 12 of the side member and generates the cancel moment M2 in a direction reducing the first moment M1 by the deformation of the front part 12 of the side member in the collision.
