<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device capable of finely controlling the rotation stop and the rotation start of a disk storage medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A standby control unit 311 has a mode (A0 mode) having an access to a last medium (a nonvolatile memory, or a hard disk) as a base point for a standby timer and a mode (A1 mode), having a last hard disk access as a base point for the standby timer. Moreover, the standby control unit 311 has a mode (B0 mode) for turning on a spindle motor, in response to the reception of a media access command in the Standby (motor off) state and a mode (B1 mode) for turning on the spindle motor, in response to reception of a hard disk access command in the Standby (motor off) state.
