PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy and highly reliable method for molecular diagnosis of colon cancer, usable as a substitute for or complementary means for diagnosis of colon cancer of tissue, cell or chromosome level to use naked eyes or a microscope. SOLUTION: There are provided: a method for detecting the presence of colon cancer in a colon tissue specimen extracted from human or non-human mammals by using a new molecular tumor marker CBX2 for colon cancer; and a probe for detecting the presence of colon cancer in the colon tissue specimen extracted from human or non-human mammals by detecting expression product of a CBX2 gene.
