<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition system for an internal combustion engine, avoiding interference of a leakage magnetic flux so as to generate efficient ignition energy. <P>SOLUTION: In the ignition system for an internal combustion engine, a plurality of ignition coils constituted by magnetically coupling primary coils and secondary coils by iron cores, are used, and contamination-proof capability or ignition performance to air-fuel mixture of an ignition plug are improved by combining secondary coils different in electric discharge property. Since an open magnetic circuit type iron core structure is adopted for the ignition coil, and a magnetic body part converging and passing the magnetic flux leaked from the ignition coil is provided, an interference of the leakage magnetic flux is avoided to generate the efficient ignition energy.
