PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a label printer which is capable of automatically determining whether or not a charged label paper is proper with respect to an adherend to which the label is pasted, after the label paper with various features has been charged to the label printer and choosing an adherend to which the label is to be pasted, for determination within the label printer, and to provide a method for determining proper paper for the same. SOLUTION: The label printer is focused on choosing the kind of an adherend and determining on the matching appropriateness between the chosen adherend and the label paper 2, while the label paper 2 holds identification data that enable specifying thereof, the printer having a readout section 9 that reads out the identification data, being capable of selectively inputting, at its inputting section 7, information of the adherend to which the label paper 2 is pasted, thus determining the kind of the label paper 2 on the basis of the identification data from the readout section 9, thereby control is performed by determining the matching appropriateness between the adherend and the label paper 2 for indication on an indication section 8.
