PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outdoor unit for an air conditioner convenient for carrying, having high installation safety and including easily gripped handles, and the air conditioner including the outdoor unit. SOLUTION: The outdoor unit for the air conditioner includes a heat exchanger 12, an air blower 13, a compressor 16 and refrigerant piping 17. The handles 5a-5d for carrying the outdoor unit are provided at corners of an outdoor unit body 1 of the outdoor unit, and are opened astride both edges of the corners. The handle 5a-5d includes a handle frame 6 and a bag part 7, and a projection 7a is provided in the upper part of the bag part 7. The lower face of the bag part 7 of the handle 5a-5d is inclined upwardly toward the back direction, and the machine chamber 15 side or air blowing chamber 11 side of the projection 7a of the bag part 7 of the handle 5a-5d is formed to have a recessed arc shape 7b.
