PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal etalon type wavelength variable filter, in which wavelength changes at a transmittance peak in an environment test required for optical communication are suppressed and light at a desired wavelength can be selectively and variably extracted from incident light in a wide wavelength band. SOLUTION: The wavelength variable filter includes: a first transparent substrate on which a first transparent electrode and a first reflection mirror reflecting light at a prescribed wavelength are formed; a second transparent substrate on which a second transparent electrode and a second reflection mirror reflecting light at a prescribed wavelength are formed; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first transparent substrate and the second transparent substrate; a sealing disposed between the first transparent substrate and the second transparent substrate and enclosing the liquid crystal layer; and a fixing member made of an adhesive, which fixes the first transparent substrate and the second transparent substrate. The wavelength variable filter is configured to transmit light at a wavelength corresponding to the voltage applied between the first and the second transparent electrodes.
