<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To proactively prevent a situation which cannot store images that have been scanned in an external storage medium while maintaining user-friendliness in case that scanned and read images are to be stored in an external storage medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image reading device for storing images that are read through scanning in an external storage medium 15 detects the storage capacity of the external storage medium 15 equipped thereto, and selectably displays reading conditions, out of reading conditions that can be set, that generate images with file size predicted not to exceed the storage capacity, which is decided by the reading conditions. The selectable display of only reading conditions that enable storage of read images in the external storage medium 15 guides users to select the reading conditions enabling storage of the read images in the external storage medium 15, thus making it possible to proactively prevent the situation in which the scanned and read images cannot be stored in the external storage medium 15.
